The present invention relates to a system and method to adaptively replace cache through dynamic scaling of leader sets, capable of automatically or dynamically replacing a cache replacement type. According to one general aspect of the present invention, a device comprises a cache and a cache replacement unit. The cache is arranged in a plurality of cache sets and each of the cache sets stores data. The cache sets are appointed as leader cache sets, and each of the leader cache sets is associated with any one between first and second replacement types. The cache replacement unit monitors efficiency of at least first and second replacement types to correctly predict cache line replacement; selects a dominant replacement type between at least first and second replacement types based on efficiency; and dynamically scales the number of cache sets designated as leader cache sets based on at least part of the efficiency of the dominant replacement type.
