PMSM Method for sensor-free determination of the orientation of the rotor of an ironless PMSM motor

A method for determining an orientation of a rotor without a sensor in a coreless permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) from a known rotor angle comprises: a step (a) of specifying a rotor system according to the rotor angle; a step (b) of applying a voltage pulse of the motor in a torque forming direction of the rotor system; a step (c) of measuring current on the motor; a step (d) of determining an estimated reverse electromotive force (EMF) according to a magnetic flux forming axis based on the measured current; a step (e) of forming an estimated reverse EMF integration and/or a filter-based cumulative function by a temporal integration of the estimated reverse EMF according to the magnetic flux forming axis; and a step (f) of determining the orientation of the rotor from an algebraic sign of the estimated reverse EMF integration and/or the cumulative function.
