The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for treatment or prevention of liver disease and liver protection containing a Myristica fragrans ethanol aqueous solution extract or Nectandrin B separated from the extract as active ingredients, wherein the composition containing the Myristica fragrans ethanol aqueous solution extract or Nectandrin B separated from the extract as the active ingredients contains no toxic substances, is free from cytotoxicity and is excellent in inhibition of cell death induced by treatment with peroxides and increases in reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby being useful for protecting hepatocytes and for treating or preventing liver disease.
