A content playback apparatus based on an Android operating system (OS) comprises a processor configured to drive an Android OS and a digital-to-analog converter. The processor is configured to be operated by switching between a first mode in which a sound output is performed through the digital-to-analog converter and a function provided by the Android OS is limited, and a second mode in which a video reproduction is performed through the Android OS and a function provided by the Android OS is executed. For example, in a high fidelity (Hi-Fi) audio mode, a function of the Android OS is limited. In an ultra high definition (UHD) video playback mode, other functions provided by the Android OS and UHD video playback can be used. Compared to conventional times, a Hi-Fi audio and UHD video playback environment can be constructed at low costs, and an independent user interface is provided according to a desired mode.
