An apparatus, computer program product and method for improved management of system resources of a matching system are provided. For example, according to embodiments of the present invention, the efficiency of system resource utilization can be increased by managing the period during which data related to a video segment is stored based on data in consideration of the identified popularity of the video segment. The identified popularity may be determined by an algorithm that takes into account the number of viewers who watched the video segment, the rating of the video segment, a measure derived from a remote source, or other factors that may indicate the likelihood of the video segment being watched.
