The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for eliminating the harmonics of an HVDC system. The apparatus for eliminating the harmonics of an HVDC system which is applied to a system where a current type HVDC system and a voltage type HVDC system are connected in parallel, and removes characteristic harmonics generated in the current type HVDC system, includes a signal collection part for collecting a voltage-type HVDC control signal outputted from the voltage type HVDC controller of the voltage type HVDC system; a harmonic measurement part for measuring harmonics on a bus line connected to the voltage type HVDC system; a harmonic amplitude calculation part for calculating the magnitudes of an individual harmonics with respect to the harmonics by analyzing the harmonic; and a harmonic canceling signal generation part for generating a harmonic canceling signal by comparing the magnitude of the voltage type HVDC control signal and the magnitude of individual harmonics. It is possible to remove the harmonics generated from the current type HVDC system.
