The present invention relates to an air purifier and a method to determine the cleaning or replacement time of an air purifier filter. The air purifier according to the present invention includes: a main body housing which has an inlet of taking external air in and an outlet of purifying and discharging the intake air; a filter which is installed in the main body housing and purifies air; a dust concentration sensor which measures ambient dust concentration; and a filter performance determining unit which determines whether to clean or replace the filter or not during operation by using a first concentration value (C_0) measured from the dust concentration sensor and a second concentration value (C_t) measured after predetermined time elapses after measuring the first concentration value (C_0). The air purifier is provided to determine whether to clean or replace the filter or not by detecting the change of a purifying ability by using an inexpensive dust concentration sensor.
