A system, method, and computer readable non-volatile storage medium for protecting a patient from adverse reactions to food ingredients are provided. The system derives first confidence level data from the patient ' s medical data that indicates the probability of the patient having an adverse reaction to the food ingredient. The system obtains food composition information including second confidence level data indicative of the probability of a food ingredient present in the food item. Based on the first and second confidence level data, the system creates a safety level for the patient to consume the food item. The system can then either allow the machine to access the food items according to the level of safety generated, or have the patient display the recommendations.
