The present invention discloses a system and method for tracking a vehicle based on template matching. The system for tracking a vehicle according to an aspect of the present invention includes a candidate group detection part that detects a vehicle candidate group from a plurality of pyramid images of each frame image through shape-based learning; a non-maximum suppression (NMS) extracting part for grouping a similar vehicle candidate group using NMS and outputting a candidate region; a tracking part for tracking the position of the candidate region by a Kalman filter; and a template matching part which matches a reference template generated at the start of tracking with the position of the candidate region that is tracked later and reflects the matching result to the candidate vehicle group to be detected.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2018
