Disclosed is a method for encoding a video which comprises the steps of: splitting a picture into encoding units with a predetermined maximum size; determining an encoding depth of field and an encoding mode to which an encoding result is output by performing encoding based on an encoding unit for each depth of field and each region reduced by splitting the maximum encoding unit by stage as the depth of field increases on each maximum encoding unit; and outputting encoded video data and information on the encoding mode of the encoding depth of field including split information and skip mode information listed by an order of split information and skip mode information selectively determined by each encoding unit for each depth of field.
