Disclosed are austenite-based stainless steel with improved hydrogen brittleness resistance and a container for high-pressure hydrogen gas having the same. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the austenite-based stainless steel comprises: 0.1 wt% or less (excluding 0) of C; 1.0 wt% or less (excluding 0) of Si; 2.0 to 7.0 wt% or less of Mn; 15-25 wt% of Cr; 7 to less than 10 wt% of Ni; 0.4 wt% or less (excluding 0) of N; and the remainder consisting of Fe and inevitable impurities. Moreover, SFE is 40-70 mJ/m2. SFE is defined by the following formula (1): 4Ni+0.6Cr+7.7Mn-44.7Si+1.2
