The present invention relates to an austenitic stainless steel with improved strength and pitting corrosion resistance. The austenitic stainless steel having a high interstitial element including much of both carbon and nitrogen has excellent pitting corrosion resistance, comprising: 15-19 wt% of chromium (Cr); 9-11 wt% of manganese (Mn); 0.18-0.3 wt% of carbon (C); 0.25-0.3 wt% of nitrogen (N); 0.1-0.3 wt% of niobium (Nb); 0.3 wt% or less of silicon (Si); and the remaining including Fe and other inevitable impurities.
