Disclosed are a method for payment of public transport and a portable terminal executing the same. The method capable of automatically making payment comprises: a boarding check step of measuring intensity of a magnetic field around a portable terminal to confirm whether a public transport means is boarded; a payment step of automatically paying a charge in the portable terminal through wireless connection between the portable terminal of a user and a collector installed in the public transportation means when boarding of the public transport is checked in a boarding check step; a getting off check step of checking whether the public transport means gets off by using the portable terminal; and a section charge calculating step of calculating a section charge through wireless connection with the collector when it is checked that the public transport means gets off in the getting off check step.
