The present invention relates to a device to classify a target on an inverse synthetic aperture radar image using trace transform and a method thereof. According to the present invention, a method to classify a target on an inverse synthetic aperture radar image comprises: a step of receiving an inverse synthetic aperture radar image of a target; a step of removing noise response, clutter response, and a signal level change due to different distances between a radar and the target from the inverse synthetic aperture radar image to preprocess the inverse synthetic aperture radar image; a step of using trace transform to extract a class feature function in accordance with a main axis of the target from the preprocessed inverse synthetic aperture radar image; a step of using the class feature function to select a candidate database from a stored training database; and a step of using a class feature value included in the candidate database and the extracted class feature function to classify a type of the target. Accordingly, since the trace transform is used, the amount of databases is reduced and the amount of calculations during a feature extraction process for classification on the inverse synthetic aperture radar image is reduced, thus being able to reduce time and the amount of calculations required for target classification. Moreover, sufficient identification information is able to be acquired without being affected by translation, rotation, reflection, and the like of the inverse synthetic aperture radar image, thus being able to largely enhance classification correctness of the target.
