The present invention discloses: novel genes related to mevalonate biosynthesis isolated from Flavobacterium sp. strains; and uses thereof such as a mevalonate biosynthesis method of the genes and the like. It is an object of the present invention to provide the novel genes encoding HMGS, a hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A synthase.
