DIRECT DRIVE PIVOT AND PIVOT LOCKUP OF A TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREOF

A method for controlling a transmission comprises a step of providing an input unit, an output unit, a controller, a control system, a hydrostatic unit, and a gear train. The gear train includes a direct drive pivot clutch and a steer drive gear train. The method also comprises a step of receiving a pivot command by the controller from a shift selector, wherein the command indicates that the shift selector is in a pivot position. The method further comprises a step of engaging the direct drive pivot clutch, decoupling the hydrostatic unit from a torque path defined between the input unit and the output unit, and coupling the input unit and the output unit to one another via a second torque path. The second torque path is defined through the direct drive pivot clutch and the steer drive gear train. The transmission is controllable in a direct drive steer operation.
