A distributed fault management system (400) comprises at least one sensor (440) related to a fuel cell system (10), and at least one first fault management computing device (24) coupled to at least one sensor (440). The at least one first defect management computing device (24) is also configured to generate a resolution with respect to the first defect condition and to transfer at least one resolution command signal to at least one second defect management computing device (24).
