The present invention relates to target detection using a radar. Especially, the present invention relates to a method for tracking a target position of a radar which can solve tracking performance degradation due to refraction of a radio wave. The method comprises the steps of: tracking a position of a moving target based on a measurement value of a target tracking filter; modeling a polynomial refraction coefficient defining a change of the refraction coefficient on a radio wave refraction path based on atmosphere information; calculating an altitude angle error by using the modeled refraction coefficient; and compensating a position error of a target due to refraction by applying the calculated altitude angle error while tracking the target.
