APPARATUS FOR DETECTING COLOR REGION USING GAUSSIAN MIXTURE MODEL AND ITS METHOD

The present invention relates to an apparatus for detecting a color region using a Gaussian mixture model and a method thereof. The apparatus comprises: a first feature vector extracting unit extracting a first color feature vector from a reference image using color space transformation; a color distribution modeling unit modeling color distribution of the reference image by calculating a Gaussian mixture model using an EM algorithm using the extracted first color feature vector; a second feature vector extracting unit extracting a second color feature vector from an input image using color space transformation; and a color region detecting unit detecting a color region of the input image corresponding to the modeled color distribution using the extracted second color feature vector in a pixel unit through the Gaussian mixture model. Therefore, not only one color region to be detected but also multiple color regions can be effectively detected.
