The present invention relates to a method to detect a radionuclide by using energy spectrum data represented as a count in accordance with energy acquired from a radiation detector. According to the present invention, the method to detect a radionuclide comprises: a step of using background energy spectrum data measured without an object from which radiation is detected and object energy spectrum data measured when the object exists to calculate an accumulated count value with respect to an arbitrary energy value; and a step of comparing an accumulated background count value with an accumulated object count value. The accumulated count value is defined as a sum of all count values equal to or greater than the energy value based on the energy value. Accordingly, when applying the radionuclide detection method of the present invention, a new discriminant and algorithm are introduced to effectively and easily discriminate the radionuclide even if the radiation outputted from an actual object is not large. In particular, the radionuclide detection method is promptly available when only the new discriminant and algorithm of the present invention are introduced to an existing system without introducing a new device or part, thereby maximizing compatibility with an existing radiation detection system. Moreover, when the radionuclide detection method is applied, the radionuclide is easily detected, thereby providing an effect of widely extending application fields to be useful in numerous various objects, such as cargo, radioactive waste, food, and the like.
