According to one aspect, provided is a method for measuring the amount of in vitro interferon-gamma in a biological sample derived from an individual to diagnose or monitor an autoimmune disease or to predict the prognosis of autoimmune disease. Accordingly, the method can be used to selectively diagnose autoimmune diseases, particularly, systemic lupus erythematosus, to monitor the activity or inactivity of systemic lupus erythematosus, and to predict the prognosis of autoimmune diseases.
