Techniques for distributing and using application codes and discovery filters in inter-device (D2D) wireless devices are disclosed. An exemplary method for a notification device includes receiving first and second application codes and associated timing information from a cooperating node. The associated timing information defines respective first and second valid intervals for the first and second application codes, and the first and second valid intervals do not overlap at least in part. The method may further comprise, during a first validity period, sending one or more discovery messages comprising or based on the first application code, and including a second application code during a second validity interval, And sending one or more discovery messages based on the code. Corresponding techniques for monitoring devices are also disclosed.
