A virtual keyboard is displayed on the touch screen display surface of the computing device. A partial image of the keyboard may be displayed and the partial image may be a single key referred to as the most probable key that the user is to touch or may be a group of keys including surrounding keys having a low probability of being touched. A sensor beneath or near the display detects the outline of the user's hand and determines whether the finger is the fastest moving finger, which guesses whether the finger was used to touch the key. The most probable key is determined based on the finger of the fastest movement and will be displayed before the finger touches the surface. If the most probable key is not touched, the user profile containing the user typing habits may be updated to reflect that the key with a lower probability is touched.
