A polymer having an amino group such as a PBI derivative containing electron rich aromatic rings and the like and a sulfonated polymer such as a sulfonated polyether sulfone or the like are blended to prepare an ion crosslinked membrane or a sulfonated PBI Ion crosslinked membranes are prepared from the derivatives and thermally cured to prepare covalently crosslinked membranes. The cured crosslinked film thus thermally cured can exhibit mechanical properties such as an improved tensile strength as compared with an ionically crosslinked film which is not thermally cured.
