The present invention relates to an extracellular binding domain for an allosteric inhibitor derived from a single membrane penetrating tyrosine kinase receptor. More specifically, the invention relates to extracellular domains derived from fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR). The invention further relates to the use of such domains for the identification of similar domains in the extracellular portion of other tyrosine kinase receptors, and to screening methods for identification of small compound allosteric inhibitors.
