Disclosed are an apparatus and method for classifying image media using ontology. The apparatus for classifying image media using ontology, in an apparatus for classifying image media, comprises an ontology storage part for storing object ontology for a plurality of objects recognized in the image media; an ontology schema generation part which generates a logical expression for an activity in which the plurality of objects are combined based on the frequency of the plurality of objects in the image media and generates an ontology schema based on the logical expression; and a reasoning part for classifying the image media using the ontology schema.
