The present invention relates to a wireless sensor network system capable of improving accuracy of event detection, and communication overhead in comparison to a conventional technique in which spatial and temporal correlations are not considered. An event detecting method of the wireless sensor network system in accordance with the specification allows each sensor node in a sensor network consisting of a plurality of sensor nodes to perform the steps of: (a) generating a Markov random field model based on neighboring sensor nodes satisfying Markov properties with respect to the sensor node; (b) modelling a spatial relation in a spatial dimension, performing inference, and communicating with neighboring nodes to which the respective sensor nodes are adjacent, when a spatial event is detected; (c) merging read values of all neighboring nodes and transmitting the merged values to a temporal layer; and (d) detecting an event in a temporal dimension through a Markov chain.
