A gas bearing assembly for a gas bearing spindle is disclosed. The present gas bearing assembly includes a housing part (11) and an inner radial bearing part (10) disposed inside the housing part and resiliently mounted thereto. The inner radial bearing portion includes an inner shell bearing portion 12 having a bearing surface and an intermediate sleeve portion 14 disposed between the inner shell bearing portion and the housing portion. A liquid coolant passage (7) is provided between the inner bearing shell portion (12) and the intermediate sleeve portion (14). The present gas bearing assembly further includes anti-rotation plugs (601, 901) housed in both the housing part (11) and the inner bearing part (10) to couple the housing part and the inner bearing part without relative rotation.;
