FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of water-soluble cyano-halogenide octahedral cluster complexes of molybdenum of composition M2[{Mo6X8}(CN)6], where M=K or Na; X=Cl, Br or I. The method comprises reacting a cluster complex of molybdenum of composition MoX2(Mo6X12), where X=Cl, Br or I with potassium or sodium cyanide in a molar ratio of 1:7.2 in a methanol solution at 55°C for 2 days, or in a vacuum sealed ampoule at 650°C for 24 hours. Or, as the initial cluster complex of molybdenum, Cs2[{Mo6X8}X6] or [{Mo6X8}(OH)4(H2O)2], where X=Cl, Br or I, which reacts with potassium or sodium cyanide in a molar ratio of 1:7.2 in aqueous solution at 90°C for 3 days.
