FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a technology for growing crystals of multicomponent fluorides with a fluorite structure in MF2-CeF3 systems, which are widely used in optics, photonics, high-energy physics. Method comprises crystallization from a melt of a charge consisting of a mixture of fluorides of one or more alkaline earth metal fluorides M=Ca, Sr, Ba and cerium at a molar content of cerium fluoride from 0.05 to 50 % in an atmosphere of fluorinating agents, followed by post-growth cooling to 400–500 °C, after reaching this temperature, gaseous fluorinating agents are removed from the growth zone and heat treated in a non-oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature of 400–500 °C no less than 5 hours, and then slowly cool the crystal to room temperature.;EFFECT: invention is aimed at obtaining crystals with high optical quality in the absence of environmentally harmful emissions of volatile fluorides.;7 cl, 3 dwg, 1 ex
