Coil device for an electromagnetic rail brake for a rail vehicle comprises a winding wire having a first end and a second end. First end of the winding wire is formed in the form of a first coil connection to establish an electrically conductive butt joint with the first connecting cable. Second end of the coil wire is formed as a second coil connection to establish a conductive butt joint with the second connecting cable. First end of the winding wire and the second end of the winding wire are crossed relative to each other.
