A device for analyzing an anesthesia ventilation gas with an infrared radiation source, a gas cuvette a Fabry-Perot interferometer, with a band-pass filter function, which is tunable in terms of their central transmission wavelength in response to a control signal to a detector for providing a measurement signal and also a computing and Control unit for providing the control signal and further for detecting the measurement signal. The arithmetic and control unit is designed to control the Fabry-Perot interferometer in a first operating state by means of the control signal in such a way that the central transmission wavelength covers a predetermined wavelength range, and also based on the measurement signal for respective potential types of anesthetic a respective presence in the respiratory gas sample to detect. In a second operating state, the control unit controls the central transmission wavelength within a sub-range of the predetermined wavelength range and determines a plurality of concentration values at successive times for detected anesthetic gas types.
