The present invention relates to a method and a system for the compensation of long-term drifts on bolts sensors in earthquake zones. The method comprising: a periodic execution of the following steps with a predetermined measuring periods of duration in an evaluation routine, detecting a current bolt sensor signal, check whether the detected bolt sensor signal is in a predetermined area of coverage, outputting an alarm signal when the bolt sensor signal is not in the area of coverage and breaking off of the evaluation routine, storing of the detected bolt sensor signal in a memory, when the bolt sensor signal in the area of coverage, and continue with the evaluation routine check whether an earthquake has occurred, comparing the sensed bolt sensor signal with a previously stored bolt sensor signal, determining whether the detected bolt sensor signal from the previously stored bolt sensor signal by more than a predetermined threshold value, and outputting an alarm signal when the threshold value is exceeded. Furthermore, a system for carrying out the process is made available.
