The present invention relates to a fire protection system (1) and associated maintenance method comprising a fire extinguisher (10, 10a, 10b) having an NFC tag (20, 20a, 20b); a read-out device (30) for reading out the NFC tag (20, 20a, 20b) of the fire extinguisher (10, 10a, 10b); a server (50) adapted to store specific information concerning the fire extinguisher (10, 10a, 10b) and a transmitting device (40) for transmitting data to the NFC tag (20, 20a, 20b). The specific information includes at least one information selected from the group consisting of a location specification, a last inspection date, a safety data sheet and a maintenance instruction. The transmission device (40) is arranged to receive specific information from the server (50) and to transmit it to the NFC tag (20, 20a, 20b). The readout device (30) is arranged to read the specific information from the NFC tag (20, 20a, 20b)
