The invention relates to a cell-free combination for use - in the case of controlled, in particular slowed or delayed, drug release and or in the preparation of a hydrogel-like formulation, in particular hydrogel-shaped depot formulation, and or as hydrogel-shaped formulation, in particular hydrogel-shaped depot formulation, and or for coating a medical device, in particular an implant, preferably with a hydrogel-like formulation, in particular a hydrogel-shaped depot formulation, wherein the cell-free combination comprises a first component and a second component, wherein the first component contains crosslinkable albumin and the second component contains a crosslinking agent for the albumin. The invention further relates to a hydrogel-forming material or hydrogel, a kit or multi-component system, a medical device or pharmaceutical formulation, a dispenser and uses of the cell-free combination and the hydrogel-forming material or hydrogel.
