Methods and a system for disassembling a material using high energy dual energy X-ray CT are disclosed. In the method, two kinds of effects such as Compton effect and electron-pairing effect dominating are reserved, and the influence of the other effect such as a photoelectric effect is eliminated to improve the accuracy of material decomposition. The unique advantage of the present disclosure is to effectively eliminate the error of the calculated atomic number Z due to the direct selection of two effects during material decomposition processes in the conventional dual energy CT method. This can greatly enhance the accuracy of the dual-energy CT identification of the material and it is important to use the applications of the conventional dual-use CT imaging system, such as clinical therapy, security control, NDT, customs smuggling and other areas , to improve.
