The invention is a marking which offers a smooth surface while having a three-dimensional texture appearance, visible on at least one of its faces. There are many applications in the field of decoration (products and wall or floor coverings), but this can also be used to create random markings to verify the authenticity of a product or printed document, by comparing its characteristics recorded initially with a photographic acquisition made at the time of authentication. Firstly, a relief pattern 21 is printed on a printing medium 1 which is advantageously transparent, with an ink or varnish forming a volume protruding from the surface of the printing medium, and then a complementary volume 3 consisting of a non-transparent ink covering all or part of said relief pattern 21.
