The present invention relates to a method and a system for controlling the proper functioning of a salt chlorinator, and determining that the flow and salinity parameters thereof are adequate, said method comprising the steps of providing a constant current at the electrodes, measuring the value of the voltage within the electrodes and recovering said value, then measuring the value of the voltage within the electrodes, comparing the recovered voltage value with the periodically measured voltage value, and, where appropriate, to indicate to the user the presence of a flow or salt problem, and to calculate the necessary salt intake that must be performed by the user or by automatic means to to guarantee the optimal functioning of the chlorinator.
