A process for liquefying a gas at a cryogenic temperature comprising the following steps: a) Compression of the gas in a compressor, b) Cooling of the compressed gas at least one magnetocaloric heat pump to produce a cooled gas, c) Liquefaction of a part of the cooled gas, d) Relaxing part of the cooled gas and recycling the expanded gas upstream of the compressor inlet.
