Method and apparatus for improving dispatch of different types of law enforcement patrols for achieving a desired deterrent effect

A computer program running on a computer which identifies an available responding law enforcement patrol of a particular type with a sufficient deterrent factor for dispatch to a patrol route, the patrol route having been identified as not having a desired level of deterrence provided by a previous law enforcement patrol which has patrolled that route. A desired level of deterrence can be determined by crime statistics, which can be real-time or historical data and can include the amount and types of crimes. A dispatch instruction may be sent to the second police patrol, the instruction can include a frequency and speed at which to patrol the patrol route. Different patrol routes have different desired deterrence levels. Different types of police patrols have different deterrence levels, police people having a higher deterrence level than police cars. The identified available law enforcement patrol to be dispatched may be the one with the lowest total cost to dispatch out of the range of law enforcement patrols. A controller to implement the method is included.
