A wearable smart watch style apparatus comprises a strap 101 bounding a first mating surface, and a computing device 201 having a second mating surface. The computing device 201 additionally comprises an image sensor (202, fig 200), microphone (209, fig 200), and communications module. The strap 101 and computing device 201 are detachably coupled at the first and second mating surfaces, which preferably enables docking and undocking of the computing device 201 into the strap 101. The mating surfaces may attach via a mechanical clip (303, fig 300) or a magnet (302, fig 300), and the magnet may be used to sense a docking status. The communications module may wirelessly pair the device with a mobile device (207, fig 200) to enable automatic backup of captured images, video and audio from local storage, and for remote control of the computing device 201 by the mobile device (207, fig 200). The computing device 201 may be detached from the strap 101 and used independently, and preferably has an activity indicator (210, fig 200) to alert a third party that they are being recorded.
