Nitrile rubber products and methods of forming nitrile rubber products

The preferred composition comprises acrylonitrile butadiene rubber, ≥5wt.% milled (≤ 10µm) kaolin and biocidal 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one or 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one. Products are made by placing a forming in a mixture of rubber latex and silicate dispersion, and preferably passing through an oven, leaching out excess additive, vulcanising with zinc oxide, sulphur, an accelerator and/or titanium dioxide and dipping in slurry of starch or biocide. The elastomer may be caroxylated nitrile butadiene rubber. The preferred latex includes sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate, sodium or ammonium salt of polyacrylic or polymethacrylic acid, or a copolymer of acrylic acid with methacrylic acid, acrylamide or hydroxypropyl acrylate as a dispersant. The composition is formed into fuel or oil handling hose or tank, seal, sealant, grommet, glove, moulded item, footwear, adhesive, sponge, foam or floor mat (all claimed).
