The method involves detecting status signals of the process (1) to form a representation of the process. Each detecting unit (6) transmits its status signals to a single logic unit (3), which transmits part of the representation of the process to a computer (8). The logic unit receives at least some of a control status for the process, containing controls signals for a number of control units. The logic unit transmits the specific control signals to the respective control units. Each control units acts on the process based on the transmitted control signals. Independent claims are included for a computer program for performing the method, and for a computer programmed with the computer program.
