The invention relates to a method for determining the authenticity of an ultrasound sensor (4) of a motor vehicle (1), which sensor is actuated by means of a control unit (3) of the motor vehicle (1), characterised by the following steps: - transferring a data set from the control unit (3) to the ultrasound sensor (4); - performing a pre-defined calculation using the data set by means of the ultrasound sensor (4) and transferring a result of the calculation to the control unit (3); and - comparing the received result with a desired result and determining the authenticity of the ultrasound sensor (4) by means of the control unit (3) on the basis of the comparison.
