PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short optical pulse generator that can be made compact.;SOLUTION: A short optical pulse generator 100 includes an optical pulse generating section 10 having a quantum well structure and generating an optical pulse, a frequency chirping section 12 having a quantum well structure and chirping the frequency of the optical pulse, and a group velocity dispersing section 14 having a plurality of optical waveguides arranged at a mode coupling distance, and generating a group velocity difference corresponding to the wavelength for the optical pulse thus chirped.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
