A method for providing a dynamic appearance to a generic, morphable 3D model, based on a training set of 3D models, wherein said 3D models comprise a geometry and an appearance, said method comprising: - determining a set of sampling locations; - obtaining, for a plurality of 3D models of said training set, from each sampling location of said set of sampling locations a local appearance sample, comprising a 2D projection of an appearance of an area, corresponding to said sampling location, of each 3D model of the plurality of 3D models, on said sampling location; - building for each sampling a local appearance model by linearly combining the local appearance samples from said sampling location for each 3D model of said plurality of 3D models; - for a predetermined point on the generic, morphable 3D model: determining an appearance of said point based on said local appearance models.
