The invention relates to a method and a device for computer-aided fault diagnosis for a technical system. A simulation model (M100) of the technical system (100) and a duplicate control module (S2) of a control module (S1) of the technical system (100) are provided. An actual state of the technical system (100) is recorded by the control module (S1) and an actual state of the simulation model (M100) by the duplicate control module (S2). As a result of detection of an error in the technical system, the actual state of the simulation model (M100) is adapted to the actual state of the technical system (100) by changing the setting values of input parameters of the simulation model (M100). An output of the control module (S1) and an output of the duplicate control module (S2) are checked and, depending on the test result, the setting values of the input parameters are provided. The causes of errors can be determined on the basis of the setting values.
