The monitoring system (10) includes a sensor system (20) for capturing at a capture time information relating to moving objects (14) operating in a road infrastructure portion (12), and a control station ( 30) comprising a display (32) for displaying at a display time posterior to the capture time a view (34) of the road infrastructure portion (12) on which is visible an image (36) of each object mobile (14) .The monitoring system (10) also comprises at least a first computer (24) for deriving captured information from a measured position and velocity of each moving object (14) at the moment of capture, and a second calculator (42) for deriving from the measured position and velocity an estimated position of each moving object (14) at the instant of display. The display (32) is configured to display in the view (34) of the road infrastructure portion (12) a virtual image (44) of each moving object (14) at its estimated position.
