An object of the present invention is to provide: a woodwind instrument reed formed by using a liquid crystal polymer which enables a reduction in the thickness of the tip of a vamp and accordingly enables the vamp to have enhanced flexibility; and a method for producing a woodwind instrument reed. A woodwind instrument reed is strip-shaped and has a vamp on one side in a longitudinal direction. The reed includes a resin matrix containing a liquid crystal polymer as a principal component, and a layered mineral dispersed in the resin matrix. A method for producing a woodwind instrument reed that is strip-shaped and has a vamp on one side in a longitudinal direction includes charging a composition for forming the reed into a cavity of a mold from a longitudinal end on a side opposite to the vamp to be formed. The composition contains a liquid crystal polymer as a principal component, and a layered mineral.
