To provide a technique for measuring a moisture distribution in a predetermined area.SOLUTION: The method for examining the state of soil includes the steps of: intermittently irradiating the soil in a predetermined target area with a plurality of light beams having different wavelengths; detecting a plurality of light beams reflected by the soil in the predetermined target area; and calculating an index related to a relative moisture amount based on the intensity of reflected light of the light beams for each point irradiated with the plurality of light beams.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
